I want to extend my sincere congratulations to MPP Joe Dickson on his re-election in Ajax-Pickering.
Joe is nicknamed Mr. Ajax (and rightfully so) because of his deep roots in our community and his dedication to the people of this riding and specifically, Ajax.
I hope when everyone enjoys the Home Week fireworks on Sunday that they remember it is Joe Dickson who has made Home Week happen for over forty years.
I look forward to working with Joe and hearing his concerns this municipal election as he is a Ward Four resident.
----
I also want to congratulate my dear friend, Todd McCarthy. Todd ran a great campaign and kept to the issues of the election.
Todd would have made a fine MPP because of his deep passion for our riding of Ajax-Pickering. I've known Todd for quite awhile and I've always commended his commitment to our community and all of his fundraising efforts for local causes.
I don't think we've seen the last of Todd McCarthy!

Saturday Canvass in South Ajax
We had a great canvass today
in the Shoal Point/Ashbury Area.
As usual, residents were
gravely concerned about taxes but even more so, they want to improve community safety
Most residents were busy
with spring cleaning, but the residents I spoke to talked about change at
council and having a new Councillor who can communicate better with residents.
It was great to see a community so in tune with whats going on in town. Neighbours were out enjoying the nice weather together and the park was filled with kids.
I am looking forward to continuing having progressive conversations and engaging with residents in Ward 4.

Jim, We Will Miss You
I am shocked and saddened to hear of Jim Flaherty’s passing.
Jim exemplified what it meant to be a public servant and was
a great role model. Jim will go down as one of the best finance ministers in Ontario
& Canada’s history. During the entire economic downturn, Jim stayed the course,
acted responsibly and was a true statesman who got us through some of our
toughest times as a country.
My thoughts & prayers are with Jim’s wife, Christine and
their three sons.
I am proud to call Jim a friend and I will miss his common
sense approach to politics.

Our First Day at the Doors
Our team was out this past Saturday in the south-end of the Ward speaking with residents.
It was encouraging to see how many of them want change. The issues varied from taxes to community safety to transit to bike lanes to our lakefront but one theme stayed the same, change at Ajax Council.
One resident noted that although it seems great Ajax Council can work together, it is also disappointing to rarely see debate. To not debate a budget is alarming, said the resident on Seabreeze and I agree with him.
I'm looking forward to door knocking more and more often as the weather gets nicer.
